Harm K. Schutte

Prof.dr. Harm K. Schutte , M.D., Ph.D. is an ENT specialist/phoniatrician, with special interest in voice and speech physiology and pathology. He is employed at the University of Groningen, working in the Groningen Voice Research Lab., Faculty of Medicine as a professor in voice physiology and medical voice and speech pathology (Phoniatrics and Voice Care). He directs the Voice Research Laboratory. He earned his doctorate on a thesis on the subject of The Efficiency of Voice Production, an aerodynamical study of normal and pathological voice production, under Prof.dr. Jw van den Berg. He also studied music theory and choral conducting at the Conservatory of Groningen. His research is focused on aerodynamic and acoustical phenomena in the professional singing voice, using physiological investigation techniques. At present work is in progress on the registers of the singing voice, establishing the influence of vocal tract and voice source, respectively; on biomechanics, registration and quantification of the fastmovements of the vocal folds and related topics of non-pathological voice production.
