Workshop: EVTS for Choir

Juliette Dumorê

In this workshop you can experience how EVTS can be useful for choirs.
We will look at two perspectives of using EVTS:
a) for the members of the (amateur) choir: to sing healthy
b) for the conductor: to use it as an interpretation tool

a) to sing healthy:
EVTS provides tools that can easily help solving technically problems. The most common voice problems in (pop)choirs are: singing with constriction in the higher regions, pushing on the sound (and then singing of key) and singing breathiness. It is not unusual that members of the choir are hoarseafter a rehearsal or concert. Teaching choir members EVTS tools is a quick and easy method to solve these problems. And it’s fun too!

b) to use as an interpretation tool
In EVTS there are 6 specific voice qualities that gives a characteristic sound. For example: Opera, Belting, Sob. The voice qualities are combinations of the individually figures you’ll want to teach your choir members to sing healthy. So it’s just a small step to combine these techniques to get the sound you prefer in a song. Imagine how exiting it is when the whole choir at instant can shift into another voice quality!
In the workshop today you will learn to sing with some fundamental EVTS figure’s and you will experience how these tools can be used for the interpretation of the song we’re going to sing as a choir.
