Voice acting: Explore the expressive possibilities of the voice language

Janneke Geertsema

Every actor, public speaker, singer, performer is effectively speaking three languages at once: the language of words - the text -, the language of sounds - the speed and intonation -, and the language of the body - the way facial expressions, hands and posture support the words.> A good speaker does not perform a monologue but rather conducts a dialogue> with the audience. It is two-way traffic, a form of communication in which everything that he sends out is reflected by the audience. They experience much more than what is said. The form largely determines what the audience> feel, think and remember.
So it is crucial for a speaker to be fully aware of the expressiveness of his body- and voice language. How they work together and influence each other. The body and the voice convey the message; not only the content but also atmosphere, intention and emotions that go with it. It only comes across if it is presented with a display of poise.> Varying breath, timbre, volume, pitch, and pace gives dynamics and rhythm, propelled by thoughts and emotions. Every feeling has its own dynamics and body language.Awareness of the feelings and the meaning behind the words is very> important.
In this workshop we explore the expressive possibilities of the voice of the speaker! By focusing on the practical side of things, we develop voice expression through exercises, poems, one-liners, texts.
