The training of the voice at the AT@KA, i.e. The Amsterdam Theatre School and Art Academy is divided in Singing and Speech training.
Singing training is done differently from the training in speaking. Speech and singing training are thus considered to be different, but even in speech training diverse forms exist.
It is not a surprise that in the field of singing large differences in style are found. A specific sound quality, like American Musical, the German Classical Lieder, or playing Brecht, asks for a specific training.
Occasionally a tone is produced from a perfect coordination of muscles and acoustics; in the training of speech the approach is made from purely listening to the sound produced. Is acoustics or kinesthetics the determining factor? In a voice lesson there are three phases: a technical approach, technihc mixed with soul, and soul. It is training, but also a conversion of a text or a phrase of music to the performance.
