How to Belt (or How to Be Belterrific)

Lisa Popeil

This interactive workshop explores four main tools in the teaching of belting: calls, nasal/ring exercises, pressure sounds and 'laryngeal lean' techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to experience speech-like and yell-like sounds to the top of the vocal range. Five sub-styles of belting (nasal belt, twangy belt, heavy belt, speech-like belt and brassy belt) are included. Proper posture, precise breath support, resonator shaping and helpful techniques such as breath-holding and jaw firming will be shown.
