Traditional/Classical approaches to vocal technique are not always relevant to today’s whole spectrum of professional singers. Breathing and relaxation themed therapy and teaching may compromise the contemporary vocalist’s ability to make the stylistic sounds they require accurately and safely.
This interactive workshop will look at an evidence-based approach to working with non-classical singers from both a voice therapy and singing perspective. We will explore dynamic core stability, recoil breathing, vocal fold mechanics, changes in vocal tract posturing and the more controversial aspects of high-intensity voice-use including belting, screaming and vocal distortion. The workshop is relevant to singers, singing teachers, vocal coaches and therapists.
